How to Adopt

Let us help you add to your family!

The first thing that I suggest for all potential puppy owners is that you take the time to become educated about our beautiful Teddy Bear English Goldendoodles.

You need to read our English Goldendoodles page to find out what makes our Smeraglia Goldendoodles so special. I would also suggest that you watch our videos in our video gallery.  Once you decide that you want one of our special little Teddy Bear Goldendoodle puppies, you need to look at our photo gallery to decide if you like the curly or the loose wavy coated Goldendoodles. I love photography which is why we have hundreds of pictures on different albums for you to look through. We also need to know what size and gender you prefer and would work best for your home. You then need to learn about the various Goldendoodle generations so that you can choose the type that will best suit your needs. You also need to decide what training goals you desire and would best benefit your life. We can help you choose how many weeks of Doodle Prep School you need. If you would like to adopt one of our puppies you will need to submit your application online along with the deposit. Once your application is approved, you will be contacted by phone to discuss the available or upcoming puppies. Please keep in mind that our puppies are very popular AND we are trying to match your needs and overall physical preferences, wait time can vary. We do occasionally have available puppies featured on our Available Puppy Page that can be adopted immediately.

  • If we do not have an available puppy that is the perfect match for you, once your application is accepted, you will be placed on our waitlist for an upcoming litter.
  • PLEASE NOTE - COLOR/SIZE SPECIFICATIONS COULD INCREASE YOUR WAIT TIME, please speak to a Doodle Specialist for more information.

Puppy Wait List

All clients are placed on our upcoming Wait List until the expected litter is born. This means you will not be placed on upcoming litters and will be offered a puppy once it is born. This guarantees that we are offering you the right color, gender, and generation.  Your preference of size, gender, color or generation will determine your wait-period sightly (speak with a Doodle Specialist for further details).  The wait time varies from immediate availability on the available puppies page up to 9 months.   If a puppy becomes available, he/she will be offered to the Wait List before going on the website. Please note, just because you do not see an available puppy on our "Available Puppy Page" this does not mean we do not have puppies. We believe in planning ahead, so if you know you want a Smeraglia Teddy Bear English Goldendoodle, Schnoodle or Twoodle, then you want to submit your application as soon as possible so that you can be placed on the list.

Puppy Application

All potential puppy and working dog owners need to register with our site and fill out our online puppy application along with a $295 deposit. Deposits are non-refundable and will be applied to the total purchase price of your puppy. The remaining balance will be due when your puppy is four weeks of age. Once we receive your online application, we will contact you to discuss your application and begin the puppy-matching adoption process. Click the "Start My Application" link at the top of this page.  We do screen all of our new clients and want to ensure that you will be a good fit for one of our puppies, so we will follow up when your application is received so that we can make sure to be on the right "search" for your new addition. Our lists fill up very quickly, so we strongly encourage all applicants to apply at least 4-6 months before you desire to bring your puppy home. If we do not have an available puppy that we feel is the PERFECT match for you and your family, then you will be placed on our waitlist.

How Do You Match Up These ADORABLE Puppies with their Forever Families?

It is our desire to speak with each family that wishes to adopt from us so that we can know exactly what you want in a puppy/working dog. It is nice for us to know why you chose our Smeraglia Teddy Bear English Goldendoodles, and we want to learn more about our puppy's forever family and what the life of that puppy will look like when they are fully grown and serving your family. If you are already on the waiting list, you will have the first option to adopt one of the next available puppies that match your criteria. Families are always put on a litter based on their application date.

It's important for us to know if you need this puppy for Service or Therapy work. We need to know if you are allergic to dogs and what coat type you desire. Do you prefer a curly coat, wavy, or shaggy coat? Would you prefer a small, medium, or large puppy? We have three sizes of Goldendoodles: small 18-30lbs, Medium 35-50lbs, and Standard 55 lbs and over. Most of the puppies in each size group are similar in size, but there may be one that is a bit smaller. If that suits your needs best, please let us know. If you prefer your puppy to be from a specific litter, we need to know that right away. We will try to work that out for you. All of these questions are asked in the puppy application to help with the matching process.

If you are concerned that you or someone in your family is going to be allergic to your new puppy, we have a solution! We can provide you a T-Shirt Allergy Test. This test was developed exclusively here at Smeraglia. The test is designed to determine if you or one of your family members can tolerate your new puppy. Please note there is a $150 charge for this service, but it is well worth not having to send a puppy back after it has arrived home and the family has fallen in love with their new puppy. Just call the office to schedule this test.

Puppy Socialization

We spend a lot of time loving on our puppies, so they go home very well socialized. They have been played with by our children and handled from the day they were born. The first day a puppy is born at Smeraglia, we tag and weigh the puppy, and then a schedule is developed. The very next day we begin "Early Neurological Stimulation."  This is crucial for proper neurological development. It has also been proven to increase intelligence.

We continue to wait and perform daily stimulation until the puppy is enrolled in Prep School or travels home. We have found that our puppies do extremely well with handling and they are highly intelligent and very social little puppies when they go home. The most common comment that I hear from a visitor is “Wow, I can't believe how still they are when you hold them, but the minute their feet hit the ground they are running and playing.” When the puppies are born, we take 2,4, and 6-week old pictures of them and we also shoot a high-resolution HD video at six weeks old. These photos will be posted in a private puppy photo album that you will be enrolled in as a member. We also do personality testing for all puppies at seven weeks old. We allow our clients to give us their first and second puppy choice based on the pictures that we post. We allocate the puppies at seven weeks old.

Temperament Testing

All of our puppies are temperament tested at seven weeks of age so that we can most closely match you with the puppy that you desire and the puppy that we feel is the best match for your family. At 49 Days old, we temperament test each puppy, and then we decide which puppy is the best for your family based on the needs that you have. We do highly consider the two puppies that you choose, but the final match is always based on the Temperament test.  Most of the time our Goldendoodles are very similar looking with very similar personalities, and there is rarely a problem with the matching process. If you do not get the puppy that you want, you are welcome to roll over to another litter and go through the process again until you are 100% comfortable with your match.

We have several highly certified dog trainers on staff that does the temperament testing for our puppies to ensure that we match each family with the puppy that best meets their needs. We spend lots of time with our babies, and we get to know them in a very personal way, and we have found that it is best for us to choose the puppy. We will include you in this process, as well. We have done this for almost all of our families and have had great success.

What do I do until my puppy comes home?

When Is My Balance Due?

  • The balances for these puppies will be due at four weeks old
  • Puppies unconfirmed or unpaid for will be offered to next family on the list.
  • If this is a problem just let me know, I am willing to work with you if you let me know.
  • We suggest that you enroll your puppy in Doodle Prep School by six weeks of age.

Not the best time to get a puppy? No Worries!

If this is not the right time for you to adopt a puppy, you are welcome to submit or send in your application and deposit for an upcoming puppy as long as you realize that it could take 2-4 months more to get your Goldendoodle.

If you have been placed on a litter for a puppy and you find that you cannot take the puppy at this time, you can go back on the waitlist.

We look forward to hearing from you.
