Looking for a Standard Goldendoodle? Our Large TeddyBear Goldendoodles (about 55–85+ lb) are closest. They carry the same temperament-tested, allergy-friendly line as every dog we place, from the family that bred the world’s first English Goldendoodles in 1999.
Since 1999
Our story
Sherri spent the ’90s raising English Golden Retrievers, until her son turned out to be allergic to them. She bred them with the Poodle and, in 1999, created the world’s first English Goldendoodles. Today our Large TeddyBear Goldendoodles are the size many families still picture when they hear “Standard Goldendoodle,” raised on our farm in Robertsdale, Alabama.
“Standard” means different things at different breeders, so here is exactly how we size ours. Large is the closest to what most people call a Standard Goldendoodle.
about 12–22 lb
10–13 in at the shoulder
Our smallest size, what others may call Petite or Toy — small enough for travel and city life, yet sturdy enough for family fun.
about 18–35 lb
The size closest to what most families mean by a mini — easy to handle, wonderful in apartments and small enough to share the couch.
about 35–55 lb
16–19 in at the shoulder
A beautiful in-between — substantial, athletic and still manageable; families torn between a mini and a large often fall in love with a medium.

about 55–85+ lb

Closest to what many call a Standard — the full teddy bear experience: gentle, snuggly and devoted, for active families with room to roam.

From their first days
To help every puppy grow into a calm, adaptable dog.
At seven weeks
We evaluate confidence, energy, sociability, and how each puppy responds to new people, new sounds and gentle handling.
The part we love most
A laid-back cuddler goes to the family who wants a movie-night buddy; a curious, confident explorer goes to the family dreaming of hiking trails and ball games.
Our families so often tell us their doodle feels made for them — because in a very real way, they were matched on purpose.
Goldendoodles are famous for their soft, low-to-non-shedding, allergy-friendly coats — one of the biggest reasons allergy-sensitive families choose them.
Every dog and every allergy is unique, so we’ll never make medical promises. What we can do is help your family find out for yourselves.
A Smeraglia favorite
We send your family a shirt that has been snuggled by one of our doodles, so the allergy-sensitive member of your household can check their reaction at home — before Gotcha Day is ever on the calendar.
Want a head start?
Add our on-site Doodle Prep School and your puppy comes home already working on crate training, potty training, leash manners and confidence in new places. Programs run from 1 to 16 weeks at $875 per week — including advanced tracks for therapy and service work. It’s the difference between bringing home a puppy and bringing home a puppy with a diploma.

Our Large TeddyBear Goldendoodles, the size closest to what most people call a Standard, grow to about 55–85+ pounds. Girls typically stand 19–23 inches at the shoulder and boys 20–25 inches. Sherri’s size guide explains every size, and why height matters too.
Our Large Goldendoodles are gentle, snuggly and devoted, ideal for active families with room to roam. Because every puppy is temperament-tested at seven weeks, we also match energy: a laid-back cuddler for the family that wants a movie-night buddy, a curious, confident explorer for the family dreaming of hiking trails and ball games.
Gentleness with people is one of the traits we specifically breed and test for. Because every puppy is temperament-tested at seven weeks, we can match your family with a puppy whose energy suits your household, whether that includes toddlers, teenagers, or a bossy older cat.
Their low-to-non-shedding coats are among the most allergy-friendly you’ll find, one of the biggest reasons allergy-sensitive families choose them. Every dog and every allergy is unique, so we’ll never make medical promises — our T-shirt allergy test lets your family check at home before you adopt.
Your application comes with a $295 deposit ($305.33 when paid by card), which is non-refundable and applied to the total purchase price of your puppy. We then talk by phone about your family and your wish list, and once temperament testing is complete at seven weeks, we match you with your puppy. If the right puppy isn’t here yet, you’re placed on our waiting list until the expected litter is born.
