New York families
Smeraglia bred the world’s first English Goldendoodles in 1999. Today New York families bring our puppies home from our family farm in Robertsdale, Alabama by Doodle Dash or Au Pair Air. Here is how it works, and which size fits New York life.
From our Alabama farm to your New York home, in four steps.
Your application tells us about your family. At seven weeks every puppy is temperament tested, and we match the puppy to your home, not first come, first served.
Our puppies go home between 8 and 10 weeks old, depending on their size. Our team will confirm each puppy’s specific go-home date. If you choose Prep School first, your puppy goes home after training (1 to 16 weeks).
Doodle Dash is our ground delivery: we drive your puppy from Alabama to New York. Runs are scheduled; ask our office for the next date. Prefer to fly? With Au Pair Air, a nanny flies with your puppy in the cabin to your airport.
With Doodle Dash, you meet your puppy at one of its scheduled stops: Winchester, VA; Lancaster, PA; Robbinsville Twp, NJ; Tarrytown, NY; or Southington, CT. With Au Pair Air, your puppy’s nanny meets you at your airport. Prefer to visit? Pick your puppy up at our farm in Robertsdale, Alabama.
Runs are scheduled; ask our office for the next date. Flying instead? Au Pair Air brings your puppy to your airport with a nanny. For Au Pair Air quotes, families can email [email protected].
Whether you live in a Manhattan apartment, a suburban home or farther upstate, choosing the right puppy is about much more than size. We consider your lifestyle, activity level, household, experience with dogs and what you hope life with your puppy will look like. Our temperament evaluations help us match each family with a puppy whose individual personality and needs are a good fit for their home and lifestyle.

Size is only part of it. We look at your lifestyle, activity level, household, experience with dogs and what you hope life with your puppy will look like, and our temperament evaluations help us match you with a puppy whose personality and needs fit your home. Tell us about your space and your building’s pet rules when you apply, and we’ll keep them in mind.
Tell us the limit when you apply, and we’ll suggest sizes expected to stay under it. Size categories are guides rather than guarantees, so leave a little room under the limit.
New York families experience a wide range of weather throughout the year. Depending on your puppy’s size, coat, age, activity and the conditions outside, you may need to adjust outdoor time during periods of extreme cold, snow or summer heat.
