By Sherri Smeraglia, Founder of Smeraglia’s Teddy Bear Dogs
When families ask me how much one of our Teddy Bear Doodle puppies costs, I’m glad they ask. Bringing a puppy home is an exciting decision, but I want families to understand the full picture—not just the puppy’s purchase price, but what it takes to care for that puppy throughout the first year.
Whether you’re considering one of our Teddy Bear English Goldendoodles, Teddy Bear Schnoodles, or Teddy Bear Twoodles, many of the same expenses apply: veterinary care, grooming, food, supplies, and training. And the right puppy for your family is about much more than price alone.
How much does a Teddy Bear Doodle puppy cost?
At Smeraglia’s, pricing varies by breed, size, and individual puppy. Our original published pricing information for this article lists Small, Medium, and Standard Teddy Bear English Goldendoodles starting at $3,995 and Extra Small Goldendoodles starting at $5,095. Those figures should be confirmed before publication, and our team can provide current pricing for Schnoodles and Twoodles as well.
Rather than assume all three breeds cost the same, I encourage families to talk with our Adoption Specialists about the puppy and size they’re interested in.

What goes into the price of a Smeraglia Teddy Bear Doodle?
I believe families should know what happens long before they meet their puppy. At our farm in Robertsdale, Alabama, we put tremendous thought into our breeding program, including parent-dog health, genetics, temperament, and the care each puppy receives as it grows.
We developed our Teddy Bear breeding programs with the goal of bringing together the qualities families love in a companion: affectionate temperaments, strong family connections, and thoughtful matching. Our Teddy Bear English Goldendoodles, Schnoodles, and Twoodles each have their own characteristics, so we help families consider which breed and size best fits their lives.
Our puppies receive around-the-clock care. We have staff on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so our puppies are not left alone without people caring for them. From birth, they’re weighed regularly, monitored closely, and evaluated throughout their development. Our team follows age-appropriate medical protocols, including veterinary care, deworming, and vaccinations. We even prepare special puppy gruel as they grow, and each puppy goes home with a Puppy Kit.
Temperament assessment begins at birth
We don’t wait until seven weeks to begin learning who each puppy is. We observe our puppies from birth and conduct developmental and temperament assessments approximately every two weeks. At about seven weeks, we bring those observations together into a final temperament summary, shared with families in their puppy’s seven-week video and update. This helps us understand each puppy as an individual and guide families toward a thoughtful match.
A puppy memory book in pictures and videos
I think of our photographs and videos a little like a baby’s memory book. Our photographers capture the puppies approximately every two weeks, and our media team creates special videos at important ages and milestones. Families get to see their puppy grow and watch their personality emerge during weeks they couldn’t otherwise experience firsthand. All of this takes time, talented people, and care—but these memories are special.
When comparing breeders, ask about health testing, the parents, puppy care, temperament evaluations, and the support available after adoption. Those details matter.

What does a puppy cost during the first year?
The purchase price is only the beginning of your first-year budget. Whether you choose a Goldendoodle, Schnoodle, or Twoodle, consider these ongoing needs:
● Veterinary care: wellness exams, age-appropriate vaccinations, parasite prevention, and unexpected health needs.
● Grooming: professional grooming appointments, brushing tools, coat maintenance, and learning to keep your puppy comfortable with grooming.
● Food and everyday supplies: quality food, bowls, a crate, bedding, a leash, harnesses, toys, and safe chews.
● Training and socialization: time spent teaching routines, good manners, confidence, and appropriate behavior at home and in the community.
● Daily care: potty breaks, cleaning, supervision, exercise, and the consistency a young puppy needs.
● Travel or delivery: your expenses for picking up your puppy or arranging one of our available delivery services.
Costs vary depending on your puppy’s size, where you live, and the services you choose. Ask your veterinarian and groomer for local estimates and make a realistic budget before your puppy comes home.
Should you purchase pet health insurance?
I encourage families to think about pet insurance before bringing their puppy home. Even a healthy puppy can have an unexpected accident or illness, and insurance may help with eligible veterinary bills.
Smeraglia’s offers eligible families the opportunity for 30 days of complimentary Trupanion pet health insurance. Some states are excluded under program rules outside our control. Here’s the important part: the puppy’s new owner must personally enroll and activate the offer within 24 hours of receiving the puppy. Coverage is not automatic, and our team cannot sign up on a family’s behalf because the program requires the owner to do it directly.
After the complimentary period, families can choose whether to continue paid coverage or compare other providers. I encourage you to review deductibles, exclusions, waiting periods, and the actual policy terms. We love being able to offer this starting opportunity, but the decision—and timely activation—belongs to you.

Doodle Prep School is much more than training
This is something I really want families to understand. When your puppy enrolls in Doodle Prep School, you’re not paying only for lessons with a trainer. Your puppy remains in our care, and we’re taking responsibility for many of the daily needs you would otherwise be handling—and paying for—at home.
Alongside professional training and the daily practice that helps establish good habits, our program includes grooming and coat care, daily supplies and equipment such as toys and crates, everyday care and supervision, veterinary visits, and keeping your puppy current with the age-appropriate medical protocols included in the program. Families also receive weekly training videos so they can follow their puppy’s progress and prepare to continue those lessons at home.
I often tell families that training is only one part of what they’re receiving. Think about everything else a puppy needs during those early weeks: grooming, vet visits, food, supplies, attention, structure, and consistent care. Those responsibilities don’t disappear if your puppy comes home earlier. They simply become yours to arrange.
Whether you choose one week of Doodle Prep School or continue through our full 16-week program, much of that spending on ordinary puppy care would happen anyway. Prep School brings those services together while giving your puppy a consistent learning environment.
That doesn’t mean every dollar of Prep School tuition replaces an expense you would have paid at home; professional care and training add value of their own. But it does mean families should compare the whole package of care, not treat the entire tuition as a training-only charge.
I believe that makes Doodle Prep School a valuable option for families who want their puppy to have a strong start and who appreciate having those early responsibilities handled by a team that knows their puppy.

Is a Teddy Bear Doodle worth the investment?
That’s a personal decision, and I want families to make it thoughtfully. The best choice isn’t necessarily the lowest advertised price. It’s finding a puppy whose temperament and needs fit your family, understanding the care that goes into raising that puppy, and knowing what support you’ll have along the way.
We’ve spent years developing our Teddy Bear Doodle breeding programs, and I care deeply about helping each family find a good match. Whether you’re drawn to a Goldendoodle, a Schnoodle, or a Twoodle, our Adoption Specialists can walk you through current prices, available puppies, expected size, and optional Doodle Prep School programs.
I’d love for you to ask questions. A well-prepared family is one of the best gifts we can give a puppy.
